Alan Bedell 

Penn Hills High School:  SWIMMING- WPIAL and PIAA Champion in 100 yd breaststroke; honorable mention All American 

University of Virginia:  SWIMMING- four years, captain junior and senior years, top six finisher in 100 yard breaststroke in Atlantic Coast Conference all four years, highest finish 2nd place at 1974 Eastern Seaboard Championship, ACC top 12 in breaststroke all four years, 1975 and 1976 Brooke Mowry Award for outstanding leadership to member of University of Virginia swim team 

Jim Botti 

Westinghouse Memorial High School:  FOOTBALL- starting guard and linebacker three years, graduated 1960 

California State of PA:  FOOTBALL 

Coaching Career:  East Allegheny, 1974 Keystone Conference champs, Keystone Conference Coach of the Year; 1978 became assistant football coach at University of Pittsburgh 

Frank DiMatteo

Westinghouse Memorial High School:  MARINE CORPS FITNESS TEAM- captain, won Tri-State Competition three y ears, 2st at Nationals in Washington, D.C., recorded highest score ever- perfect 500; FOOTBALL- starter 

Juniata College:  FOOTBALL- All-East three times and holds three records at Juniata, longest punt-72 yards, interception returned for a touchdown- 52 yards and most interceptions by a linebacker on one game-3 

Other Sport:  6 degree black belt, six time PA State champion instructor, with only school to have three black belts in top 10 at same time; co-authored two Martial Arts books and appeared in Black Belt Magazine 

Dick Evans 

Westinghouse Memorial High School:  FOOTBALL and BASKETBALL- ALL-WPIAL both senior year and second team All District 

Virginia Military Institute:  FOOTBALL- player of the week twice in state of Virginia 1959, third leading pass receiver in nation 1959 season, All Southern Conference Football team, 1957 undefeated team 

Other Football:  Fort Knox Post team, two years 

Softball:  Player/manager Fort Knox Post Fast pitch softball team, won Second Army Championship 1962 

Inductions:  VMI Hall of Fame 1973 

John “Jack” Fullen 

Central Catholic High School:  BASKEBALL, two year letterman; City Catholic Champion and State runner-up 1956 and 1957 

Slippery Rock State College:  BASKETBALL two years, State Teachers Conference champs 1963 

Other Athletic Career:  Head basketball and cross country coach, assistant football coach; WPIAL track and field official; Assistant Superintendent and Athletic Director at Blackhawk School District; developed successful Marine Corps Youth Physical Fitness Program at Blackhawk- team qualified for National Championship every year from 1980 to 2000; WPIAL: Board of Control and Track Steering Committee and PIAA Board of Directors 

Honors/Inductions:  State Athletic Director of the Year and Distinguished Award Recipient; Beaver County Sports Hall of Fame 1996 

Joe “Grit” Homoney 

Turtle Creek High School: Captain BASKETBALL and BASEBALL ; All-WPIAL basketball senior year 

Youngstown University:  BASKETBALL and BASEBALL 

Other Baseball:  Daily News League five years- batted over .300 every year; Mon Valley Batting Champion with .506 average; invited three years for tryout with Pittsburgh Pirates in 1960’s- did not signed, but played in their all star games 

Coaching Career:  Coached high school football 28 years- 12 as head coach in competitive Akron/Canton, Ohio area; coached seven playoff teams, one state champion, two state runners-up, regional finalist and three district finalists; Basketball- reached regional finals and narrowly missed states; Swimming- state contenders 

Honors:  Coach of the Year by Alliance Review Newspaper 1988 and Cleveland Plain Dealer 1993 

 Ed Malack 

Rankin High School:  Basketball four years, captain senior year, All Section 

Other Basketball:  Independent teams including the Braddock Salvos and Braddock Schwartz Club 

Baseball:  Sandlot teams including Swissvale American Legion, Hearst All Star team alongside former Pirates Dick Groat and Paul Smith; pitched professionally two years-  Newton Conover in Western Caroling league and Butler Pirates in Middle Atlantic league; won 13 games for team than won only 44 of 140 games; played five years with Wilkinsburg Chamber of Commrece in Tri-County league; instructor for  Pie Traynor and Pittsburgh Pirate tryout camp and schools 

Coaching Career:  Basketball All Star teams 

Donald R. McCaig 

Pitcairn High School:  FOOTBALL four years under Chuck Klausing and Pete Antimarino; BASKETBALL four years under Chuck Klausing and John Galagazal; BASEBALL four years under Pete Antimarino; starter all teams junior and senior years; junior year helped lead basketball to eam to Section 16 championship; baseball All-Star; graduated 1956 

Westminster College:  BASKETBALL- union and senior years played in NAIA Tournament in Kansas City, 1960 lost in National Championship against South West Texas; Most Valuable Player 1960, Who’s Who in Small College Basketball 1960, West Penn Conference 1st team, leading rebounder junior and senior years 

Bernie McDonough 

Central Catholic High School:  WEIGHTLIFTING- began as hobby 

Weightlifting Career:  1948 began competitively and continue until 1996 when retired at age of 68; 1977 Master meets for lifters over 40; represented US in three world Masters meets in 1980, 1993, and 1994; Won three world records California 1980; one world record Perth Australia 1994; won numerous contests as novice, junior, senior, country, state, national and world meets; before becoming a Master lifter in 1977, was oldest lifter in Open Contests 

Pat Mooney 

Turtle Creek High School:  TRACK 

Slippery Rock State College:  CROSS COUNTRY lettered four years, team captain senior year; TRACK and FIELD three year letterman, State Championship 1960, All-Conference 1959 and 1960 in the mile, All-Conference two mile 1960 

Coaching Career:  Penn Hills, McKeesport, Northfield Mount Herman, Cross Country and Track Head Coach at Clarion University; Coached basketball and lacrosse- coached 1989 US National Women’s Lacrosse Team to World Championship; overall career winning percentage of 77% (357 wins and 105 losses) 

Other Sports Related:  Studied sports in Germany and Austria, attended five Olympic games, speaker at Atlanta Olympics on Hydro Training; presented at Olympic Training Center, appeared on ESPN and in Sports Illustrated, published in American Track and Field and The Atlantic Magazine 

Honors/Inductions:  Holland Rubendell recipient for outstanding teaching and coaching, Mount Herman Hall of Fame in Massachusetts
