John Duffy 

Westinghouse Memorial High School:  began boxing, ran several miles before school each day 

Boxing:  West Homestead, Duquesne Gardens and McKeesport Palisades; numerous amateur fights in Priest River, Idaho at age 18, 1940; after service boxed Canadian champ Woofe Griever, final figh tagainst Chuck Klausing before a large crowd at Wilmerding’s football field, 1947 

Service:  Army, boxed at bases in Virginia and New York, boxed in Europe- nicknamed “The Steel City Scrapper”, major overseas fights include events with:  the Red Forn, European lightweight champ Floran Dimaris, Johnny Pasanno, Larry Cinceris, and European middleweight champ Marsall Cerdan 

Boxing career spanned two decades, winning record in over 120 fights 

Joseph Fusco

Wilkinsburg High School:  1955 graduate

FOOTBALL:  offensive/defensive line 

Westminster:  offensive/defensive line, three year starter, All-District twice, All-State senior year, Co-Captain, All-Time Westminster Team 1963 

Coaching Career:    Wilmington Area High School 50-12-1 1960-66, Grove City 5-2-2 1967, named assistant coach 1968  Westminster Titans Football Team 154-34-3 record and four WASA Division II Championships in 19 years, winning percentage of .814, one time 27 game winning streak, Division Ii Coach of the Year twice, five play-off records of 22-6, 1977 team won the Lambert Bowl

Mark Gefert 

Scott High School:   1970 graduate

FOOTBALL:  played for Fran Rogel, played 20 of 22 positions, Honorable Mention All State senior year 

Purdue University:  lettered three years, two year started, led team in tackles senior year, ABC TV Defensive player of game against ranked Michigan 1972, ABC TV Defensive player of the game against National Champion Notre Dame in 1973, All Big Ten 1973, played in Est-West Shrine Game and Coaches All-American Game 

National Football League:  drafted 8th by Pittsburgh Steelers 

Canadian Football League:  Winnipeg two years 

Coaching Career:  Bishop David High School Louisville, KY six years, Coordinator of Athletic Academic Advising for Cleveland State University 

Bill Koryak 

North Braddock Little League:  33 years; playoffs 20 times, ten championships; All-Star Coach; Lost one game in two years 1988-89

Honors:  East Boros’ Man of the Year 1991, Nominee Post-Gazette Man of the Year 1992 

Jack Merchant 

Wilkinsburg High School

TENNIS:  1939 undefeated WPIAL Championship Team

“Mr. Tennis” of Western Pennsylvania 

Other tennis:  worked with youth and conducted clinics, held every official position in the Tennis Association, directed Edgewood Club Men’s Invitational Tournament, Pittsburgh’s most competitive tournament 

Awards:  Allegheny Mountain Tennis Association service award 1991- Tournament Director for 37 years, Edgewood Club for service to community and club for annual Tournament Director 37 years, plaque from professional and amateur tennis players for directing this tournament

Bucknell University:  full scholarship, halfback and defensive back 1961-63, led team in scoring sophomore year, Honorable Mention All-Conference 

California State:  started halfback junior and senior years, All-West Conference 1965-66 

Coaching Career:  22 year football coach, assistant at Scott High, head coach at General Braddock , assistant at Penn Trafford, Defensive Coordinator for Woodland Hills High School
